⚡ Who is Kate Austen?

Kate Austen is a highly esteemed chef and a trailblazer in the culinary world, best known as the first woman to win the Main Course category on BBC2’s Great British Menu in its 19-year history. Her passion for food has taken her across the globe, with extensive experience in Scandinavia, Denmark and Sweden, working in some of the world’s most respected Michelin-starred kitchens. Through her achievements and visibility, Kate has become a powerful role model for aspiring female chefs. As a speaker, she shares honest insights on female empowerment, building self-confidence, and navigating the pressures of a male-dominated industry, drawing on her own journey of resilience, drive and determination.

Kate’s career began at Morston Hall, Norfolk’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, where her attention to detail quickly set her apart. She went on to work at Marcus Wareing’s renowned London restaurant before moving to Scandinavia, eventually joining Copenhagen’s two-Michelin-star Restaurant AOC. There, she rose to head chef, becoming the youngest female in the world to lead a two-Michelin-star kitchen. She later moved to Sweden as sous chef at three-Michelin-star Frantzén, gaining invaluable experience in one of the world’s most demanding kitchens. After the pandemic, Kate returned to the UK as Senior Development Chef for Gordon Ramsay, before her landmark Great British Menu win in 2024. Now a private chef in London, she continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
