माजी मुख्यमंत्री आणि काँग्रेसचे दिग्गज नेते अशोक चव्हाण यांच्याकडे नांदेड-वाघाळा महापालिका निवडणुकीची संपूर्ण रणनिती सोपवल्यानंतर नांदेडमध्ये भाजपमध्ये तीव्र अंतर्गत असंतोष निर्माण झाला आहे. तिकीट वाटपाच्या प्रक्रियेत अनेक वर्षे पक्षासाठी काम करणाऱ्या निष्ठावंत कार्यकर्त्यांना डावलण्यात आल्याने बंडखोरी, पक्षांतर आणि पक्षांतर्गत आरोप-प्रत्यारोप सुरू झाले आहेत.एकाच कुटुंबातील उमेदवारांना तिकीट देणे, पक्षाच्या अधिकृत मार्गदर्शक तत्त्वांकडे दुर्लक्ष करणे, तसेच काँग्रेसमधून काही नेत्यांना एमआयएममध्ये पाठवून मतविभागणीची रणनीती राबवली जात असल्याचे आरोप यामुळे हा राजकीय संघर्ष अधिकच गडद झाला आहे. सर्व प्रमुख पक्ष स्वबळावर निवडणूक लढवत असल्याने, यावेळी नांदेड-वाघाळा महापालिकेची निवडणूक केवळ स्थानिक स्वराज्य संस्थेपुरती मर्यादित न राहता, नेतृत्व, निष्ठा आणि राजकीय डावपेचांची कसोटी ठरणार आहे.
