In later vedic age anulama marriage was the marriage of a higher varna man with a lower varna woman , pratiloma marriage was the marriage at a lower man with a higher varna woman, women enjoyed freedom and respect but their status deteriorated compared to rig vedic time, the four dividion of society became clear initially based on occupation which later became hereditary brahmins they were priets, kshatriyas they were warriors, vaishyas they were agriculturists, cattle rearers, traders and shudras they were servers of the upper three, in later vedic time people like chariot racing it was a main sport that time and gambling was the main pastime, gotra appeared in this age first time , gotra signified descent from common ancestors in this later vedic social life it was important in this age.
