First swarm catch of 2018....... watch and weep Dirt Rooster

Unbelievable, that's the best word I can choose to describe what happens in this video. Each year I look forward to the end of February because it is the beginning of swarm season, one of my most favorite times of the year. Well, it's already started, and looking back at things, it's starting to make sense.

When I did the hive rotations in our bee yards 3 weeks ago, I never noticed a real abundance of bees in our boxes that could indicate the possibility of hives swarming. However, because I talk to many other bee keepers in different areas of Louisiana and Mississippi, I discovered that many of them had 2 full boxes of bees, and many with capped drone cell, indications of eminent swarming.

Because we have had unusually cold weather, I had assumed this would push the swarm impulse back a week or so, but instead, it may have had the exact opposite effect and now, the season is upon us.

So, sit back for a quick cup of joe because this ain't a long video, but it packs quite a wallop for those of us who love catching swarms.... and those who like watching us catch swarms.
