Normally a electronic problem with cordless tool controllers shows as a burnt spot, or a bubble or crack in the resin coating.
This time there is no obvious sign of failure so to find out if the speed controller is at fault you can just cut it out and wire the saw direct through the switch.
If It now works then the speed controller needs to be replaced.
