STORYLINE:
Athletes from Australia and Pakistan arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday night ahead of the Commonwealth Games, beginning on Sunday.
Seven-thousand athletes from 71 countries and territories are scheduled to take part.
Arriving at New Delhi airport, Australian swim team coach, Leigh Nugent, said there had been some concerns over the safety of the athletes, but "not enough to stop them from coming."
Earlier on Wednesday, Australia issued a new travel warning stating that "the Commonwealth Games will be held in a security environment where there is a high risk of terrorism."
To allay fears, Indian authorities have deployed nearly 100-thousand police officers onto the streets of New Delhi, put fighter jets on standby and even brought in langur monkeys to help protect the largest international sporting event ever held here.
Australian swimmers will take part in the six-day pool programme at New Delhi, held from October 4-9, with daily morning heats and the finals starting at 4 pm local time (1030 GMT).
Swimming Australia said that 31 swimmers will make their Commonwealth Games debut in India.
