Episode 200

The street is disrupted as workmen dig up the cobbles to put down telephone cables. Martha (Lynne Carol) continues to blame the Barlows and scares Minnie (Margot Bryant) with rumours of a bomb. Val (Anne Reid) is upset Ken (Bill Roache) lied the previous night by telling his friends she had a headache. Ena (Violet Carson) has her photo of late husband Alfred reframed but deflects questions from Minnie and Martha about her marriage. Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) decorates Gamma Garments but is too shy to ask Swindley (Arthur Lowe) to help with the play. Albert (Jack Howarth) worries he may have caused Susan Schofield (Ann Mitton) trouble by giving her fireworks. Jed (Kenneth Cope) fails to become Gamma’s supplier. Swindley reluctantly considers producing the play after Doreen (Angela Crow) asks him on Emily’s behalf. Ena humorously threatens to throw Martha into the manhole if she keeps going on about her marriage. The Barlows finally reconcile while Susan turns up in the Street looking for Albert.
