I went with an orchestral aproach, I recorded a wine glass and then pitched it to the midi keyboard to use and a music box plug-in for the christmas theme and childlike excitement. I felt that using strings was most appropriate as it was a heartfelt story with sadness, the promise they have kept every year with themself and their loved one. I used the strings to set the pace alongside the clarinet and bassoon to balance out the lower end with the cello and double bass interweaving with the violins. I wanted to create a musical journey which also has the theme of the main character at the beginning, but also the mother's motif that follows and how this changes and develops througout the short film, following the persons journey and development as now it is coming to the last tape.
