Part chronometer and part vintage watch tribute, the 2014 Jaeger LeCoultre Tribute to Geophysic limited edition is a loving homage to the 1958 Jaeger LeCoultre Geophysic E168. This 38.5mm stainless steel re-edition watch is a faithful celebration of the original and a formidable luxury sports watch in its own right. Whereas the first Geophysic was JLC's answer to the first Rolex Milgauss, this Tribute rejoins the battle against Rolex's antimagnetic watch.

Jaeger LeCoultre's original Geophysic was designed to be a chronometer, an antimagnetic watch, and a water resistant watch for explorers and technicians during the 1958 "international geophysical year." The 35mm original receives a larger stainless steel case as the Tribute to Geophysic, but all features including the lugs, case, and bezel are true to the vintage watch that inform this JLC SIHH sensation.

A dial with distinctive "crosshair" center and quarter Arabic numerals offers substantial upgrades over the Jaeger LeCoultre E168; the quarter Arabics, hour indices, and broadsword hands are crafted from white gold. The dial base is a matte white in order to reduce glare. Although the 1950s Geophysic only featured the "crosshair" dial on a few units of the total production, this dial style has been chosen for all 2014 Geophysics with the exception of the 58 pieces in platinum.

Simulated "patina" super luminova is applied to hands and the inner bezel; the latter feature evokes the radium applied to the underside of the vintage Geophysic's Plexiglas crystal. The material features an agreeable ecru coloration but glows as brightly as any modern sports watch after dark.

The Jaeger LeCoultre Tribute to Geophysic adheres to the durability and chronometry philosophy of its vintage forbear. The Jaeger LeCoultre Master 1000 hours control has been rendered more rigorous for this watch; a unique standard of -1/+4 seconds per 24 hours has been applied to the fully assembled watch. Water resistance is 100-meters, and a soft iron inner cage encloses the movement in order to shield it from magnetism.

The JLC caliber 898/1 inside the Tribute to Geophysic is an in-house/manufacture movement with unidirectional automatic winding, ceramic winding rotor bearings, a 43-hour power reserve, stop seconds (hacking), a free sprung balance, and a beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute to Geophysic 1958 Limited Edition features a 38.5mm stainless steel case surrounding a white dial on a blue alligator strap with a stainless steel tang buckle. Functions include hours, minutes and seconds. The watch also measures 11.4mm in thickness and 45.5mm from lug-to-lug.
