Open Space: Rich The Kid | Mass Appeal

In the latest episode of "Open Space," a woozily, jubilant Rich the Kid sits down with MASS APPEAL to talk about his chemistry with Migos, the ever-changing industry, and his label venture, Rich Forever.

"It's a whole new wave," says Rich the Kid, as he talks generally about rap's rapid evolution. "With us it's so original and so true to ourselves, we can't do what everybody else is doing. We can only do what we do. And it's showing."

Since his 2013 debut Been About the Benjamins, Rich has carved a loyal, borderline-obsessive fan base off the strength of free mixtapes, eventually leading to a deal with 300. 'Rich Forever 3,' the latest compilation project from the eponymous collective that includes buzzworthy rappers Famous Dex and Jay Critch, was released in June, and it debuted in the top half of the Billboard 200 at No. 93.

It's a promising sign for Rich's collective, and he's looking to expand. "When I see young people, young artists, young dudes trying to make it out, and they have good music, it's like, 'Why not?' Why not get a team together, and put people on. That's letting people know that you're uplifting them."

Elsewhere in the chat, he discusses Dex being passed over for the cover of XXL's "Freshman" issue, and recording with Quavo at 4 a.m.
