Starting with maybe the most famous Toyota of the last century the 2000GT; this car was placed in a room with the FR-S design team serving as inspiration. The Toyota 2000GT was produced in the late 1960's with only a very small quantity making it to production. The 2000GT is considered Toyota's first internationally known sports car thanks in part to the James Bond movie franchise which featured this vehicle in one of the movies. A lot of the design lines were borrowed from the Toyota 2000GT and implemented on the Scion FR-S.

The second car to inspire the 2013 Scion FR-S is the Toyota Sports 800. The Sports 800 featured a boxer engine up front with a rear wheel drive layout. This gave the car a very low center of gravity which helps in the handling department. The Toyota Sports 800 was produced from 1965 to 1969.

The third and final car to influence the Scion FR-S is the cult favorite Toyota AE-86. This vehicle is really named the Toyota Corolla Levin but insiders deemed it the AE-86 based on chassis and engine codes. The AE-86 maybe inspired the FR-S the most because in its day this car was known the world over for being a affordable great all-around vehicle. The Toyota AE-86 was not the most powerful car around but the combination of price, handling, balance, and RWD layout made it a wonderful choice for enthusiasts. And to this day the Toyota AE-86 is still a very sought after car.
