STORYLINE
Italian prime minister Romano Prodi, currently on a five day trade visit to India, visited the tomb of Mother Teresa in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta on Monday.
Mother Teresa lies buried at Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity order that was founded by her in 1949.
The revered Catholic nun is known for her life's work dedicated to helping the impoverished and the dying in Calcutta's slums and was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1979.
She was beatified on October 19, 2003 at St Peter's Basilica in Rome.
During his visit, Prodi and his wife Flavia Franzoni also also visited a children's hospital.
The head of state is in India to lead a delegation of cabinet ministers and business leaders. On Wednesday he is due to hold talks with the Indian Prime minister.
The two countries are looking to double bilateral trade to ten (b) billion US dollars by 2010 and are expected to sign a number of agreements.
