North Yorkshire Moors Railway - Black Five in the rain; 9F in a hurry (DBLM Steam)

Even when the day turns miserable and drizzly there's a comforting familiarity about a Black Five, a 1/49 gradient, early autumn colours, limestone rocks, gently chewing sheep and the soothing sound of LMS 5428 going about its business between Whitby and Pickering. The purists will say 'it's tender first'. But I'm viewing all this at a higher plain! It feels like 'real steam' from the 60s - there is little evidence of an human audience - and the incursion of a Black Five into the landscape just seems remarkably normal.
This was the 5th of September, it looked like the driest day of the week and it was the day after one of the three train sets was cancelled for a number of days. The trains featured are the 1000 and 1410 from Whitby(with 5428) and the 1710 from Whitby(92134 from Grosmont) captured(but only just) at Darnholm and Moorgates - in the increasing gloom.
