Local and Global: What Are Sister Cities?

A program created in a post-WWII world, Sister Cities International creates partnerships between cities to foster understanding and goodwill. Beginning officially in 1956, sister cities between a U.S. city and an international city build on a rich history of global cities creating bonds. The program has led to countless educational exchanges, business partnerships and disaster relief efforts.
