I was lucky enough to spend a few hours in my friend Linda Arkelian's dance class at the Woodwards Campus of Simon Fraser University. It gave me a chance to use a lens and camera combo that are separated by about 90 years.

The lens is the 25mm f1.4 Biotar, made by Carl Zeiss. This optical formula went on the be used in later Zeiss lenses, the 58mm and 75mm Biotar as well as the Soviet era Helios-44 lenses to name a few.

This little C Mount lens doesn't cover the full APS-C sensor on the Fuji XPro2 that it was on because it was designed for a smaller format; 16mm film or, in this case, the slightly smaller 9.5mm Pathé cine format camera that this lens was found on.

Because the lens doesn't cover the sensor fully, the video was shot in 4K and cropped to 4/3 ratio and a 16mm overlay was dropped in to mask the hard vignette in the corners.
