Independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid emerged victorious in J&K LS Polls defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Baramulla seat. Rashid, a former MLA from the Awami Itihad Party (AIP) from Langate in Kupwara district, is currently in Tihar jail on terror charges. Popularly known as ‘Engineer Rashid’, the AIP leader defeated Omar Abdullah by a margin of over 2 lakh votes.
