*Literary device of the day* -

ALLUSION: an implied or indirect reference especially in literature (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

The great thing about using allusion is it does the heavy lifting for you. Because some sources (like Humpty Dumpty) are so well-known, all you have to do is hint at it, and your reader immediately understands what you're describing vs. you having to describe the entire experience (falling, shattering, etc.) over again. LOVE.
