Baby Obsessed Mice, Amara and Athena

If you want trusting little mice, it is important to start socializing them to humans from the day they are born. Twice a day they need to be gently handled to get them used to people, at first only for a few minutes at a time, but then as they get older for longer. Most adult mice do not mind you holding the babies, in this video moms Isa and Ella do not seem to care, but aunties Amara and Athena feel VERY strongly that babies should be in nest boxes. This makes socializing the little ones tricky, with two baby obsessed mice trying to steal them all the time. Don't worry, they are not hurting them. Mice have a firm grip when they pick up a baby, but also a very gentle one. I know because sometimes they get so carried away, they try to also haul my fingers back to the nest lol It is neat how much mice vary in the degree of their determination to care for babies. Amara and Athena are the best little aunties, even if they over do things a bit :)
Note: this video was taken a few months ago, all the babies are now grown up.
