This year’s Disaster Relief Heroes never say “no” when they are called to help someone in western Iowa. No matter what time of day or what day in the year, Gerry Sue and Sal Rinella are ready to leave the comforts of their Missouri Valley, Iowa, home to provide help and
hope. Salvatore Rinella (or Sal, as he is known to many) first became a disaster action responder while living in Illinois. It wasn’t until Gerry Sue fell in love with Sal that she decided the American Red Cross is how she wants to make a difference. The Rinellas are the only disaster action responders living in Harrison County. So when the call to help a family after a home fire, tornado or flood comes in,
the Rinellas are out the door. Their unwavering commitment to helping families through Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services is why the Red Cross is proud to honor Gerry Sue and Sal Rinella with this year’s Disaster Relief Hero award.
