Artist Story: Marquetta Johnson

Описание к видео Artist Story: Marquetta Johnson

Artist and educator Marquetta Johnson (born 1955) has established a community-driven creative practice that incorporates both the quilting traditions passed down to her from her grandmother and mathematical teachings from her school-age years. As a teaching artist, she works with the High’s community of students, teachers, and visitors to facilitate workshops and offer accessible teaching strategies for sustainable fabric-dyeing practices.
Watch this film to learn more about her art, her classes, and the inspiration behind her “Nine Patch” quilt (2016–2018) in the exhibition “Patterns in Abstraction: Black Quilts from the High’s Collection.”
