Pregnancy में Safe और Effective Skincare! | How to Glow Safely During Pregnancy! | Clear Skin, Pune
What Happens To Your Skin During Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a beautiful journey, but your skin goes through several changes. Estrogen and progesterone levels shoot up, leading to acne, dryness, increased sensitivity, melasma (the pregnancy mask), stretch marks, and even hair thinning. These changes are common, but they do need careful attention.
Ingredients You Should Completely Avoid
Let’s start with the harmful stuff. Retinoids (like isotretinoin, tretinoin, adapalene) are strong Vitamin A derivatives. These can cause serious developmental issues in the baby’s brain or heart. Avoid them 100%.
Next, salicylic acid, often found in face washes and spot treatments, can get absorbed into your bloodstream. Even 1–2% might carry some risk, so it’s best to stay away.
Hydroquinone, which is used to treat melasma and pigmentation, can also get systemically absorbed. That makes it unsafe during pregnancy too.
Chemical sunscreens containing oxybenzone have been shown to disrupt hormonal function. These should also be avoided. You can still use sunscreens, but they must be physical or mineral-based.
Safe Ingredients You Can Use During Pregnancy
Now the good part. Several effective ingredients are totally safe.
Azelaic acid works great on acne and pigmentation. It’s pregnancy-safe and dermatologically approved.
Vitamin C helps brighten the skin and adds glow. If your skin feels irritated, skip it. But otherwise, it’s a great morning pick.
Niacinamide helps with pigmentation and has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s gentle and safe.
Benzoyl peroxide in 2.5% strength can be used as a spot treatment for pimples.
Ceramides and peptides help with skin elasticity and can reduce stretch marks. They’re great for hydration and recovery.
Hyaluronic acid is a hero for moisture retention and skin plumping. Use it confidently—it’s completely safe.
Always choose mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These don’t interfere with your hormones and provide safe sun protection.
Morning And Night Skincare Routine
In the morning, use a gentle face wash. Follow it up with a light moisturizer. Then apply any safe serum, like azelaic acid or niacinamide, depending on your skin concern. Seal everything in with a mineral sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
In the evening, cleanse again, moisturize, and apply your serum. If needed, top off with another light layer of moisturizer. That’s it. Keep the routine minimal but consistent.
