This mix is a very special project that I have been working on since 2013, before I really knew how to mix music. I had listened to many mix CDs by DJs and wanted to make my own. With absolutely no idea what I was doing or how to even do anything, I started building a tracklist of songs I know I wanted in the mix. I had an idea for a mix about an apocalypse and a goal of how I wanted it to sound. Learning how to make this mix is what got me into mixing music.
I first started listening to other DJ's mixes and the original tracks to break down exactly how it was done. Once I figured how to mix songs together I ran into so many issues of the songs I wanted to mix not flowing together because they were way off key and sounded horrible. I put this project aside while I made many other mixes for years, learning, improving. I kept expanding the tracklist for this mix over the years and every now and then I would work on finding what songs actually worked together and what ones didn't. I still didn't have a satisfied flowing mix from start to finish for years. Eventually I found some more songs that fit the sound I was going for and it just clicked and just like that I got a solid set of songs from start to finish. Done right? Nope. I tried several times to record this mix and after playback I just wasn't totally satisfied with the outcome.
This past year of 2020 had given me a lot of free time at home and finally gave me some time to really focus on this mix. I spent tons of time mixing each 2 or 3 songs together over and over figured out exactly how I wanted them to mix and memorizing it, listening to them over and over.
Finally here at the end of 2020, 7 years after I started this project with a vision in mind, I finally have it done. I had the final set recorded late 2020 and have spent the past few months listening to it over and over making sure every detail is as close to perfect as I can make it. Well, its not perfect but its good enough for me to call this done. I am quite satisfied with my outcome. What a journey this project has been for me. I really hope you enjoy this sonic journey of a mix I put together as much as I do.
