Synopsis:
One summer evening, Byomkesh Bakshi and his partner Ajit arrive at a coal town on Manish Chakraborty's request. Chakraborty, the owner seeks Bakshi's help when he starts facing various malicious activities in his colliery. Now, Fanish, Chakraborty's only son tells Bakshi that he's being unnecessarily trapped in a murder case and narrates the entire story of Pranahari Poddar, a corrupt, nefarious gambler who has just been brutally murdered in his own house. Though, initially one suspects the four of Fanish's acquaintances to be the culprits as all four of them get financially cheated by Poddar very badly, it turns out to be a case of love and betrayal later. Mohini , Poddar's domestic help is a charming lady but she is a strong, dignified woman inside. Her husband, Vubaneshwar Das, who also plays the role of Poddar's driver is infuriated when he discovers that his owner is planning to sell off Mohini to one of his four gambling partners and already has taken money from him for the same. Feeling duped and maddened by anger, Vubaneshwar kills Poddar by the spanner of a motor.

The story ends with Das and Mohini, the husband and wife becoming fugitives and cleverly escapes by tricking the policemen.
