this patient presented to the ER about 4 days after a puncture wound through her sandal by a rusty nail. And yes...she has diabetes. She had a low grade fever, high white blood cell count, and lactic acideo so, by definition, she was SEPTIC. We tried to admit her to the hospital but she would not, so she came back less than 24 hours later after she did the things that she 'had to do' at home.
