Decolonisation: From Politics of Knowledge to Politics (George Hull and Dan Mafora in Conversation)

Dan and George talk about what has happened to decolonisation discourse over the past decade or so. Initially (in the hands of Wiredu, Hountondji, Appiah, and many others) focused on addressing distortions and blind spots in the disciplines engendered by bias and the dynamics of international power projection, in the hands of the “decoloniality” school (Mignolo, Grosfoguel, Maldonado-Torres, Ndlovu-Gatsheni, Tlostanova, Deepak) it has come to stand for a form of “delinking” which expels “knowledges” allegedly out of place, consigning them to their “proper localisms”. Emboldened currents of ethnonationalism in the politics of knowledge have inevitably lent support to newly forthright ethnonationalist strands in politics.
