In full: Starmer faces Badenoch at PMQs

Sir Keir Starmer has refused to rule out increasing the cap on council tax rises after Kemi Badenoch claimed local authorities will have to increase their levies to fill a funding gap.

The current cap on council tax increases is set at 5 per cent per year and Mrs Badenoch sought an assurance from Sir Keir at Prime Minister’s Questions that it will not be changed.

She asked: “Speaking of making life more expensive, will the Prime Minister confirm that he will keep the cap on council tax?”

Sir Keir replied: “On the question of councils, she knows what the arrangements are.”
