'La Golondrina' from 'The Wild Bunch

If I could only watch five movies for the rest of my life, Sam Peckinpah's pioneeringly violent 1969 Western 'The Wild Bunch' would be one of them. In 1913, as the West is being tamed by the railroad and other developments, a band of ageing criminals get involved with a Mexican warlord as they seek to make one last score.

They stick to their admittedly outdated principles.

Along with the balletic shootouts, there are scenes of extraordinary visual and sonic beauty, namely the one in which they are leaving a small, stricken Mexican village and being serenaded with this traditional Spanish song, which is about a swallow.
