Jaffa (or Yafo) the most ancient port city in the world was first mentioned in an Egyptian letter from 1440 BCE. For thousands of years the city has served as an entrance to Israel for warriors, crusaders, pilgrims and goods.

Historically it is linked to the biblical stories of Jonah and the whale, Solomon and Saint Peter as well as to the Greek mythology of Andromeda and Perseus.

In 1950 Jaffa and the neighboring Tel Aviv were merged into a single municipality called Tel Aviv-Yafo. However the ancient port city with its narrow alleys and ancient buildings is worlds away from the modern metropolis of Tel Aviv. The medieval mediterranean atmosphere of Old Jaffa is magical.

Today the city is home to a vibrant community of Muslims, Christians and Jews.
