Why does London have so many airports?

🛫✈️ Ever wondered why London has so many airports? 🤔 And what does World War 2 have to do with it? 🌍 In this video, we dive into the fascinating history of London's six airports: Heathrow, City, Luton, Southend, Stansted, and Gatwick.

Did you know that most of these airports weren't initially built for civilians? Southend, Gatwick, and Luton started off as military air bases during World War 2. After the war, they were repurposed for civilian use. Heathrow, on the other hand, was built as a civilian airport in 1946, initially called London Airport. However, it got a makeover and was renamed Heathrow 20 years later to avoid confusion with the other airports serving London.

But the real kicker is London City Airport, the only one technically in London! 🏙️ Built in 1987 on an old dock, it was designed mainly for business travelers, taking advantage of the conveniently runway-shaped space.
