Calian 4m Full Motion LEO Tracking Q/V Band Antenna

Calian has designed, developed, fabricated, installed and tested the world’s first full motion, four-meter, LEO tracking Q/V-band antenna. This new antenna is located at its headquarters in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and includes a full transmit and receive RF chain, baseband system, and tracking system. The fully functional gateway system is available for demonstration, testing and validation.

Calian has been engineering and installing satellite ground stations since the mid-1970s and acquired InterTronic Solutions in 2021, which added antenna production capabilities and has been designing and building antennas since 1999. Calian antenna systems are a step forward in cost-effective, high-performance tracking solutions. This antenna can be customized for a variety of frequency bands to suit various applications.

The off-set pedestal design enables the system to track LEO targets overhead using an azimuth-over-elevation mechanical system. This design approach enhances the system’s capabilities while keeping the costs down compared to more elaborate 3-axis mechanical systems.
