The multi-talented sisters, Mererangi and Mahina Paul, have played elite level netball, touch, sevens and rugby throughout their lives.

Now fully committed to representing New Zealand in sevens and rugby, Ohinga spoke with them about their journey and the legacy they continue every time they playfor New Zealand.

“Every chance I get to wear the Black Ferns jersey it’s my job to add to that,” Mere says.

Rugby has also been a driving force in their Māoritanga journey. Mererangi has led the haka for the Manawa Chiefs and Mahina has embraced learning te reo Māori. They feel connected to where they come from anytime they’re overseas and remember who they represent every time they play.

This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho. Stay tuned for a new episode every week.
