STORYLINE:
Ivana Kekin, a green-left candidate in Croatia’s presidential election, cast her vote on Sunday, saying that she was hopeful of a high turnout.

Pre-election polls predict a comfortable victory for incumbent left-leaning President Zoran Milanovic - albeit short of getting 50% needed for outright victory.

His biggest challenger is Dragan Primorac, a forensic geneticist backed by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union of conservative Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

Trailing behind them in the polls is Kekin, as the only green-left contender in the race, and Marija Selak Raspudic, an independent candidate who was until recently affiliated with a conservative populist party Most.

Kekin is trying fight off other candidates to reach the runoff in January. She represents Mozemo! ("We Can!") party which governs Zagreb, Croatia's capital.

Married to a popular rock musician, Kekin says she is a "president for a new generation." As a psychiatrist, Kekin has also accused Primorac and HDZ of syphoning money from Croatia's health system in shady corruption deals.
