Role of Epidemiology in Public Health-Part 1

This site provides a mini-lecture series related to the art and science of public health by Dr. Wally J. Bartfay. In this 2 part lecture, we shall examine the role of epidemiology as a critical foundation for public health practice. Part 1 examines key definitions and concepts and also provides a brief historical overview of key figures and developments in epidemiology and public health. Part 2 examines the importance of disease tracking and surveillance, the epidemiology triangle of communicable disease and the updated epidemiological triangle for NCDs, along with common epidemiological measures (e.g., incidence and prevalence rates, odds ratios, mortality and morbidity measures, attack rates, relative risk calculations, etc).
