STORYLINE:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the leaders of the Group of Seven industrial powers by videoconference on Tuesday.
Germany, which currently chairs the G-7, announced the meeting after Monday's missile strikes.
French President Emmanuel Macron took part in the videoconference as one of the G-7 leaders, after speaking with Zelenskyy by phone immediately after Russia's sweeping attacks on Kyiv and other cities on Monday, and later promised new support for Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he planned to discuss how to bring down soaring fossil fuel prices with his G-7 counterparts.
Scholz said that it was the same idea that led to the foundation of the G-7 in the 1970s.
