"The garbage that is collected is basically disposed of at a very basic dumping site instead of a sanitary landfill. So while the city, due to the enhanced lifestyle of its people and various other considerations, has an enormous increase in the overall volume of the solid waste, the process of the disposal of this waste is still very much (below the standard of) what one requires."

"There is a plethora of problems in this city. There are so many diseases in this city because the roads are being used as garbage dumping sites. There is no one to check this practice. No one bothers to clear this mess. The (solid waste management) staff does not do its job properly. There are no checks and balances. Then obviously, the result is misery for the people. The recent little rain has created so many potholes that life has become hell for motorbike riders. They fall into potholes as well as uncovered manholes."

"We also need to possibly improve the utilization of public transport. We see that there is an enormous rise in the number of motorcycles and motor cars. But then the options of public transport that are available to citizens, they are also less (than needed). We will have to at one end, increase the overall availability of public transport and to also inculcate among the citizens that utilization of public transport is healthier for them and healthier for the city. It is also cost effective and eventually it will also become time efficient."

"You should be responsible of what you are throwing out because what you throw out, (there) is (a) 98% chance is it’s not going to be picked up. It’s not going to be recycled. It’s just going to come back on the roads again and block the sewers, pollute the waterways. I think the citizens need to take cognizance and need to take charge of the destiny of Karachi themselves. Otherwise, it’s a lost place."
