Singer Dolores Keane with her aunts Rita and Sarah Keane talk about how they learned songs when they were growing up. Together they sing ‘I Am Thinking Ever Thinking’.

The series ‘Hand Me Down’ looks at how traditional music is handed on from generation to generation. Each programme features a traditional artist and looks at how he or she inherited Irish music from their family. The second programme in the series is a portrait of traditional musician Dolores Keane, from Caherlistrane, Tuam, county Galway, her family, her home place, her music and the music of the area.

In this extract Rita Keane describes how she began learning songs from her mother at the age of 9 or 10. Presenter Doireann Ní Bhriain asks Sarah and Rita about the origin of the songs.

Dolores describes her love for singing and learning new songs in this way.
