Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has claimed that only 15 percent vision remains in his right eye, triggering serious concern and immediate action from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. During a key hearing regarding his jail conditions at Adiala Jail, a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi ordered the formation of a medical team to conduct a fresh examination of his eye.

The court directed that the medical inspection be completed before February 16, and also ordered that Imran Khan be allowed to speak with his children. The Chief Justice remarked that Imran’s health is a matter of serious importance and emphasized that the state is responsible for ensuring proper medical facilities for prisoners.

Advocate Salman Safdar, appointed as amicus curiae, submitted a detailed seven-page report after meeting Imran Khan in jail. According to the report, Imran stated that he had normal 6/6 vision until October 2025 but began experiencing persistent blurred vision months ago. He claimed that repeated complaints to jail authorities went unaddressed. Eventually, he suffered a sudden and severe loss of sight in his right eye.

Medical findings from PIMS Islamabad diagnosed him with right central retinal vein occlusion, a condition caused by a blood clot affecting the retina. He was reportedly taken to PIMS on January 24, where doctors administered an anti-VEGF injection after obtaining consent. However, concerns remain over delayed intervention, lack of access to personal physicians, and whether timely treatment could have prevented the damage.

The Supreme Court reviewed reports from both the jail administration and Salman Safdar. While jail officials stated that facilities are adequate and medical monitoring is ongoing, Safdar highlighted Imran’s distress, visible discomfort, and claims of insufficient specialized care. The court also discussed the issue of family meetings, noting that some matters are pending before the Islamabad High Court.

This development has intensified political debate across Pakistan, with PTI leaders demanding transparency and urgent medical attention.
