Research Garage Ltd was originally started in the mid 1950’s by Margaret Machonnicie my Grandmother who started her career as a racing driver and was one of the first women to win at Brooklands the famous racing circuit in Weybridge, Surrey.

The original dealership was on the A5 Watling Street near MIRA the Motor Industry Research Association and prior to the M1 opening was one of the main thoroughfares heading North to South. The garage therefore specialised in fuel sales as well as heavy recovery with a fleet of up to ten breakdown recovery trucks at its peak. They were also one of the original TVR dealers allowing my grandmother to carry on her dreams of driving sports cars.

Over the next few decades Research Garage Ltd grew adding several Franchises and filling stations across the Region and finally specialising in Fiat and Peugeot in the early 1970’s.

They also specialised in an Accident Repair Centre and carried out vehicle insurance repairs for most of the leading insurance companies in the UK.

Research Garage is honoured to be one of the oldest existing Fiat and Peugeot main dealerships in the United Kingdom.

In the 1990’s it was decided to amalgamate all the companies into one and thus Research Garage Group Limited was formed and is currently under the ownership of Ian Rawson-Mackenzie and the company is approaching its sixth decade in the motor industry. Dedication, knowledge and experience has made Research Garage a well-known family name around the Midlands area.

After many successful years, the five franchise dealerships are now going from strength to strength, having recently won a number of awards including “Car Dealer: Used Car Dealer Of The Year Award” and entering Leicestershire’s Top 200 Companies, Motor Trader Top 200 as well as the Financial Times 1000 Top growing companies in Europe for 2017. Over the last year we have on several occasions hit the Abarth and Fiat top volume performing dealer in the UK.
