In this video we will look at a common issue on Playstation 3 controllers where the foam piece that sits under the flex pcb shrinks overtime. That causes unresponsive buttons or ghost inputs from the controller.

A simple solution to this is to take the foam piece and thicken it with double sided tape (scotch tape will work as well). This video is not intended as step by step guide, but it does show how I deal with this issue on PS3 controllers.
