Sky News host Peta Credlin says mandating schools to publish their reading lists and course materials on their websites would “force schools to be accountable”.

Her comments come after the claims made in Bruce Pascoe’s best-selling book ‘Dark Emu’ were disputed by two respected academics, who said the book is “poorly researched” and “distorts and exaggerates many old sources”.

“This book from Pascoe is still being pushed at our children, despite now strong evidence that it is not much better than a work of fiction,” Ms Credlin said.

“Last night on the show I put forward this idea and it appeals to me more and more, because it's basically without cost and it's something that could happen immediately to transform our understanding of what Australian children are actually taught in schools; and with that, drive some real change.

“Mandate that every school must publish on its website, every reading lists, plus course materials too, so that busy parents and grandparents, can at least have some better idea of what's being taught to their children.

“It would force schools to be accountable, and to offer balance; or perhaps to stand there and justify whatever slant that they’re taking on our history.”
