"I have been waiting for the past three months for the crossing to be open so that I can travel to get medical treatment, because I have a cancer in my leg. Today we couldn't get through and I am not sure if we will be able to get through tomorrow. I am sick and the disease spreads in my leg."

The border between Egypt and Gaza has opened for the first time in months.
Thousands of Palestinians are at the Rafah crossing waiting to leave.
STORYLINE:
The Rafah crossing. On this side, Gaza, the other - Egypt.
Gaza's borders are largely sealed by an Israeli and Egyptian blockade, and this is the only border crossing in and out of Gaza that does not go through Israel.
Today, Egypt has reopened this border with the Gaza Strip in both directions for the first time in months.
Thousands of Palestinians are waiting at the Rafah crossing in the hope of leaving the isolated enclave.
One of the main reasons people need to cross is to receive urgent medical care.
This woman has cancer, and does not want to wait any longer than the three months she already has before receiving treatment in Egypt.
"I have been waiting for the past three months for the crossing to be open so that I can travel to get medical treatment, because I have a cancer in my leg. This man has been waiting even longer to cross, and says a two day window is not practicable.

It's unclear if the two-day opening is tied to an agreement the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank reached with Egypt last month to reopen the border crossing.
The deal bypassed the authority of the militant Islamic movement Hamas, which seized control of Gaza from the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority in 2007.
The Hamas-run Interior Ministry says this year, the Rafah crossing has worked in two directions for intermittent 19 days.
At best, 500 people can exit Gaza through Rafah daily.
