Forgiveness Is A Free Gift From God To Us (Mathew 6:14-15)

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”(Mathew 6:14-15.)
Jesus made it so clear to us that if we forgive other people when they sin against us, our heavenly Father will also forgive us.
He did not leave it up to our approval and reason to choose who deserves our forgiveness and the way they receive it from us.
Truthfully, none of us deserve God’s forgiveness.
But, unfortunately, some of the believers are unwilling to accept this reality, and they are rejecting the truth that they are in no way, by no effort or merit of their own, deserving of God’s forgiveness.
The trap they fall into is that they compare themselves to others, thinking that they are not so bad, so Jesus didn’t really have to do much to forgive them.
But, this pride misleads them when they consider themselves more deserving than others to receive His forgiveness.
Jesus described them as hypocrites, looking at the speck in another person’s eye while missing the plank in their own.
They are basing their salvation on themselves rather than receiving it through the salvation plan of Jesus on the cross.
It’s self-justifying themselves rather than being justified by Christ based on what they consider their own moral goodness.
We must all remind ourselves that we receive God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and His precious blood that He shed on the Cross to free us from the power of sin and death.
It is through His salvation plan that we are delivered from the law of death.
St. Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians urged us to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave us. (Ephesians 4:32.)
He also proclaimed in his epistle to the Romans, chapter four, that only Jesus can justify us, saying, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”(Romans 4:25.)
Looking at ourselves and seeing how much God has forgiven us helps us cultivate in us a heart of forgiveness toward others rather than seeing how much we think they need forgiveness.
Receiving Jesus’ forgiveness for ourselves softens the hardness of our hearts and makes us able to forgive easily.
Amen.
