Today we go Head to Head with two Ludwig copper snare drums. Both drums are 5x14, have 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, Ludwig's imperial style lugs, Ludwig's snare wires and a fresh Remo USA coated ambassador batter head. The only difference between the two drums is the treatment of the shell: Smooth Copper vs Hammered Copper. Generally, copper snare drums have a sharp/cutting attack with lots of overtones. When a drum shell is hammered, the theory is that the hammering adds some complexity or darkness to the tone of the drum. What differences can you hear between the smooth copper phonic and hammered copper phonic?
