The Kings Hollow Tunnel in 2024

Описание к видео The Kings Hollow Tunnel in 2024

Tales of Southeastern Ohio returns to the Kings Hollow Tunnel. Located about 2 1/2 miles east from the more famous Moonville Tunnel in southeastern Ohio, the Kings Hollow Tunnel was part of the same railroad line. Originally built by the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad in the 1850's, both tunnels continued to serve the railroad into the 1980's, in the later years as part of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Where the Moonville Tunnel was built with brick, the Kings Hollow Tunnel is of all wood construction. Both tunnels and the old railroad right of way are now maintained by the Moonville Rail Trail Association who are doing a great job with the tunnels and with replacing a number of the old railroad bridges that had been removed when the tracks were taken up on the old rail line, opening the right of way again for bikers and hikers. When we last visited the Kings Hollow Tunnel, it was flooded but this time the old roadbed was high and try thanks to the work done by the Moonville Rail Trail Association.
