The VERY BEST Songs Of Tove Lo

Our little #MadeInSweden week comes to a close with this very Swedish artist: Born as Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson. Her nickname 'Tove Lo' was given to her at the early age of 3 by her grandmother due to her love for lynxes (lo = lynx in Swedish). As she explained: "There was this lynx at a zoo that was called Tove, and that I totally fell in love with. It was my dear godmother who decided to call me Tove Lo, after that lynx. It stuck."

In her early teens she wrote her first songs and formed a girl band with her friends. She then enrolled in a music school in Stockholm where she became friends with Caroline Hjelt who later formed the duo 'Icona Pop'. In 2006 she formed a math rock band with her then boyfriend and 3 other students. After their break-up in 2009 Lo focussed on pop. After her friend Hjelt and Icona pop got a record deal she met an A&R man at their celebration and gave him a demo-tape which he liked. Tove got put into a songwriting group with 'The Struts' and Hjelt and in 2011 she met songwriter and Swedish legend Max Martin in Los Angeles. She also released her first singles independently in 2012 and 2013 including 'Habits', which got her a substantial online following.

Thanks to that she got a record deal by a major label in 2013. In 2014 she released her debut EP 'Truth Serum' which included 'Habits' and a remix of the song called 'Stay High'. This became her first Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at #6, while the original peaked at #3 in the USA. In 2014 Tove Lo released her debut album 'Queen Of The Clouds' which peaked at #6 in Sweden, #14 in the USA and #17 in the UK. A collab with Swedish DJ Alesso called 'Heroes (we could be)' became her 2nd Top Ten hit in the UK peaking at #6. A 2nd single 'Talking Body' barley missed the Top 10 in the USA where it peaked at #12.

After she co-wrote more songs (including 'Love Me Like You Do' - a #1 song for Ellie Goulding) and a collab with Nick Jonas she released her 2nd album 'Lady Wood' in 2016. It became her only #1 album in her homecountry Sweden and peaked at #11 in the USA. In 2017 she released her 3rd studio album 'Blue Lips' which peaked at #15 in Sweden. And in 2019 'Sunshine Kitty' was released as her 4th studio album, peaking at #19 in her homecountry.
