The Family Treatment Court (FTC) is a voluntary program in Maricopa County, Arizona for parents in a dependency case with indications of substance use disorder. FTC uses a parallel court model. This means that two judges are engaged in the court process -- an FTC judge who works to support you in completing your case plan and ensuring you understand and have access to services for your children and the dependency judge, who will make decisions on your dependency case.

Enrolled parents attend regular FTC hearings and work with an FTC Specialist to set goals to build recovery capital. The ultimate goal is family reunification.

To participate in FTC, you must:
Have an open dependency case in Maricopa County that has been open
for 12 months or less
Have a case plan to remain with family or for family reunification
Have indications of substance use or substance use disorder as a reason for the dependency case
Be willing to complete a substance use disorder assessment by a licensed
professional
Be willing to sign a release of information with the treatment provider(s)
Complete an observation of an FTC hearing

Exceptions to the eligibility criteria can be made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the FTC Judicial Officer and the FTC team. FTC will not enroll a parent with dependency allegations or criminal convictions for sexual abuse of a child.
