The Haulbowline Lighthouse Cranfield Co. Down, northern ireland. The Haulbowline Lighthouse sits at the mouth of Carlingford Lough. It was completed in 1824 replacing an earlier structure that was located at Cranfield Point. A request was made by the merchants of Newry to the Belfast Board to replace the existing lighthouse and therefore improving safety for marine traffic negotiating the treacherous conditions at the mouth of the Lough.

The lighthouse stands 34m above sea level, and until 1946 was painted white. It is now natural stone coloured. Building the structure on rocks that are only exposed at low tide, and in an area with fast currents was seen as a major achievement of its time.

The lighthouse was converted to electric power in 1965 and was the first automated Irish offshore lighthouse.

In 2008 the revolving signal was replaced with a flashing warning and in 2009 the fog signal was permanently disestablished.
