Making studios for academics: Making as wellbeing, making for wellbeing
is a research project by Professor Narelle Lemon (Edith Cowan University), Associate Professor Sharon McDonough (Federation University) and Associate Professor Mark Selkrig (The University of Melbourne) that employs a qualitative participatory arts-based methodology to explore how creative methods can help represent and reflect the changing nature of academic work. The study involves two studio making sessions, each focusing on a specific creative approach: poetic inquiry and visual representation.

This documentary captures the June 2024 Melbourne studio making session called Stanzas and Self-Care: A Poetic Journey through the Academic Landscape, filmed in Melbourne in June 2024. The studio involves participants in collaborative poetry construction. Through this process, participants will explore their embodied experiences and use words to illuminate the role of well-being and compassion in the context of the evolving academic landscape.
