Self-determination through abstinence: life without pornography and masturbation. Over the past years more and more people have followed this trend. Two of them, Kristel and Marco, explain why they never want to masturbate again and why they share their intimate experiences on YouTube.

Masturbation is a topic surrounded by many taboos. Only few people openly talk about it. The exception to the rule: YouTubers like Kristel alias “Kasumikriss” and Marco (name changed) alias “Vackurah. Both have decided to abstain from masturbation and are enthusiastic about the results. In their opinion, life without masturbation and pornography is something like a “way to enlightenment”. Marco for example talks about how healthy it is not to waste any of one’s “primary life energy”. Instead of jerking off, one should keep all the nutrients and vitamins inside one’s body. Kristel, too, tells about incredible effects and says that after several days only her concentration went up, she was physically fitter and the sex with her boyfriend “was in no comparison to before”. “The orgasms are way more intensive” she says the 24-year old Dutchwoman in the video diary.

Abstinence: a way to Enlightenment?

Abstaining from masturbation is a trend which started in the United States of America several years ago. More and more people started sharing their experiences with life without masturbation on Youtube and the movement began to spread in Europe, too. Marco alias “Vackurah” claims to be the first person in Germany to have published videos about it. Since 2016 he shares his most intimate experiences openly and honestly online. He talks about relapses and gives advice on “controlling one’s impulses”. Despite the challenges and relapses Marco never considered giving up the challenge. Quite the opposite, actually: “I want to do this until the end of my life, until I can’t do it anymore.”

The protagonists of the web-documentary:

Kristel lives, studies and works in the Netherlands. On here successful YouTube-channel “KasumiKriss” (   / @kasumikrisstv1  ) she publishes videos on her life without porn and masturbation, but also about fitness and food. On other platforms such as Instagram, she also publishes pictures.

Marco (name changed) lives in Germany and has just graduated from High School. On his YouTube-channel “Vackurah” (   / @vackurah  ) he has published multiple videos about abstinence from masturbation, motivation, meditation and food. He also has a website (http://vackurah.de/) where he documents his journey.
