The roots of the Mozarteum University date back to 1841 and the founding of the “Dommusikverein and Mozarteum” on the 50th anniversary of Mozart’s death. Today the Mozarteum represents two independent entities, the Mozarteum University and the International Mozart Foundation. On this episode of Mozart Snapshots, Katie visits the Mozarteum University where she speaks with renowned violinist and conductor Reinhard Goebel, founder and director of the legendary Musica Antiqua Köln and chair of historical performance practice at the Mozarteum University, for a discussion about the theoretical world surrounding Mozart.

About Mozart Snapshots:

Each and everyone of us is shaped by the place where we spend our earliest years. Mozart was no exception. One of the first true cosmopolites of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a native of the picturesque alpine city of Salzburg, Austria. In this new series, I will explore Mozart's relationship to his home town through fun-filled conversations, insightful interviews and once-in-a-lifetime visits to interesting locations in Salzburg that have a special connection to Mozart and his family, then and now.

Treffpunkt Klassik: "Mozart Snapshots" is a collaboration with Colorado Public Radio.
